Our students at the Sulam L’Atid NGO are typical of a large segment
of Israeli society.
They have two common denominators: heightened
academic abilities and economic hardship. In the past we taught a
young student, who in an effort to help support his mother and three
siblings worked 35 hours a week after school. Some of our pupils bear
a complicated burden at an early age. For example, this year we
taught two girls whose mother died when they were 10 and 12 years
old. We have witnessed how some of our families are not strong
enough economically to put enough bread on the dinner table. We
stand behind them with the support of your donations by rewarding
their children who participate in our tutorials with vouchers to buy
food and clothing. Their children’s success at school is our success.
And we have successes. Last year our student, R., participated in a
scientific research competition. She and her research partner received
first place among over 100 participants in the regional competition.
This year one of our pupils, M., was invited to participate in a group
of high school students who learn business administration under the
auspices of the Hebrew University.
